T-4 Days!

We have been plotting, planning and charting our course for months now.  Each kid is responsible for several islands that we will visit.  We are starting out in Antigua and will go to 9 different islands before we return the boat in Antigua.

This morning when we woke up we all had to tie the important knots we will use on our trip.  A bowline, clove hitch, half hitch and stop knot.  Dad and Grant built a knot station for us to use to practice.  It will probably be a lot different tying a bowline around a dock pylon using a thick line instead of the little ones here...but I'm sure we will get used to it quickly!

Ha, ha -- so people keep asking if we have a captain and a cook.  Of course we have a captain - but it is Dad- not some professional or anything.  Mom is first mate & head cook.  Arden is chief navigator.  Grant is the powder monkey (just kidding - no cannons so he is really 2nd mate and "gopher everything else") and Lindsay is the bosun & assistant chef.  Last time we sailed as a family was 6 years ago and just for a week, so we are going to have a lot more responsibilities this time.

There is a lot to know about --like what ports make good overnight anchorages and which ones are good for day stops.  We will be in a port every night and some places we plan to stay a few nights.  I'm sure we'll learn a lot.
